Let’s be honest, no family day out is complete without something tasty to eat, is it?
Whether it’s a proper sit-down lunch or just a cheeky treat between adventures, Anglesey’s got loads of family-friendly foodie spots to keep everyone happy (and fuelled).
From vegan goodies and veggie delights to full-blown feasts for the meat lovers in your crew, the island’s food scene is full of flavour and super welcoming for kids, high chairs and all.
So, if you’re on the hunt for cafés with crayons, and ice cream that deserves a round of applause, or a lunch spot that won’t raise eyebrows at a bit of table-top Peppa Pig action, you’re in the right place.
Ice Cream, Glorious Ice Cream
Is it even a beach day if someone doesn’t end up with sticky fingers and a melting cone? I vote no!
Anglesey knows how to do ice cream, and whether you’re after classic Mr Whippy vibes or small-batch, Italian-style scoops, there’s something to satisfy every sweet tooth.
Red Boat, Beaumaris
This little gem is always busy, and for good reason. Think creamy gelato in flavours you didn’t know you needed until now. Honestly, the only downside is how hard it is to choose. So just do yourself a favour and go more than once. It’s research, after all.
Benllech Kiosk
This place is simple, classic, and a total winner. The ice cream? More your traditional, no-frills van-style scoop, but somehow, with that sea view, the salty breeze, and your sandy toes dangling off the wall, it just hits different.
One heads-up though: it’s seasonal. So if you’re planning a windswept winter beach walk and dreaming of a cone, you might be out of luck.
Harela’s Ice Cream Parlour
If the no frills ice cream van vibes don’t tickle your pickle, then Harela’s might be a bit of you. Also in Benllech, Harela’s is one of those little gems you stumble across and wonder how you’ve never been before.
It’s got that old-school ice cream parlour charm with a modern twist. Think bold flavours, friendly faces, and a counter that’s almost impossible to walk past without stopping.
Hufen Iâ Ynys Môn
Over in Cemaes, this ice cream is top-rated on the island according to good old Google, and it’s a complete travesty to admit that I’ve never been! The branding looks pretty slick though, so it’s on the hit list this summer. I’ll report back with the verdict in due course.
Cafés & Lunch Spots the Family Will Love
Finding somewhere to eat with kids in tow can be… a bit of a mission. You want good food, space for the pushchair, a kids’ menu that isn’t just beige fish fingers, and ideally somewhere other diners won’t give you the side-eye when a crayon rolls under the table.
The good news? Anglesey is brilliant for family lunches. Whether it’s a quick sandwich stop, a giant slice of cake, or a proper sit-down meal that won’t break the bank, there are loads of spots that hit the sweet spot between tasty and toddler-friendly.
The Bay Café, Benllech
Right above the beach with views for days, The Bay Café is a bit of a local hero. It’s relaxed, super welcoming, and they do a cracking breakfast if you’re starting early. Big windows, big portions, and a kids’ menu that actually includes more than chips.
Tŷ Crempog Tyddyn Môn Pancake House
Light, airy, and full of local charm, this café is perfect for a lunchtime pause after a morning of exploring. They they’re famous for their pancakes, and unsurpisingly to me, as a regular frequenter of this place, they’re rated 5 stars on Google.
Foel Farm Country Cafe
Another 5* cafe according to Google, and it’s a disgrace that I’ve been there umpteen times, and have only ever bought coffee. I can confirm they do a fab cappucino and where family friendly’s concerned? They have a tiny tots soft play area in the corner -your little ones will love it.
In life, I live by two golden rules…
- Never open the lid on a public loo (don’t ask).
- Always trust the food place with the biggest queue.
I’ll leave the toilet tips for another day, but the queue thing? Well, let’s just say that good food is always worth the wait. Whether you’re after a light bite, a sweet treat, or a dining experience fit for the queen (or king) you are, this island delivers on choice.
