Beaumaris With Kids: Where to Eat, Play & Explore

There are places that just stick with you, aren’t there? For me, that place is Beaumaris. Ever since I was little, it’s been a bit of a family tradition. Nain and Taid would pile us into the car, and off we’d go, winding down the country roads with a boot full of deck chairs.

We’d park up on the green, tuck into chips from the local chippy (Nain always brought her own cutlery in a little Tupperware, with red sauce, salt, vinegar… the works), and we’d just soak it all in. The sea, the boats, the mountains. Pure magic.

And honestly? Not much has changed in 25 years (ahem). And that’s exactly what makes Beaumaris so special. It’s timeless in the best way, still full of those little moments that stick in your memory like sand in your shoes.

If you’re thinking about spending a day here with the kids, and not sure what to do, here’s my tried-and-tested guide to some of the best bits Beaumaris has to offer. A mix of free fun, ticketed treats, and tasty pit stops to keep everyone smiling.

6 Free Things To Do With Kids in Beaumaris

Who doesn’t love a day out that doesn’t cost a penny? Here are some of our family favourites that are completely free and full of feel-good vibes:

  1. Wander Along the Pier
There’s something about a pier walk, isn’t there? The salty sea breeze, the sound of seagulls, and all those boats bobbing away… It’s perfect for little adventurers to stretch their legs and spot jellyfish in the water below.
  2. Go Crabbing (Obviously)
Beaumaris Pier is the place for a bit of crab-catching. All you need is a bucket, a line, and some bacon – and the kids will be totally hooked. (See what I did there?)
  3. Castle Gardens Play Area
Right next to the big castle itself, this play area is ideal for letting off steam. Swings, slides and plenty of grass to run wild on. Perfect for a picnic stop too.
  4. Paddle in the Outdoor Pool
Yes, you read that right. A free paddling pool, right by the beach. Great for younger children to splash around safely while grown-ups get a few minutes to sit still.
  5. Hit the Beach
It might not be the biggest beach on the island, but it’s calm, relatively safe and has some of the best views across the Menai Strait. Bring your buckets and spades, or just your imagination.
  6. Walk a Little Bit of the Anglesey Coastal Path
You don’t need to be Bear Grylls to enjoy this one, just a nice stroll along the path with the sea beside you and Snowdonia on the horizon.
  7. RNLI Lifeboat Station
Pop by and chat to the lovely team. It’s free, but donations are always appreciated, and it’s such a brilliant way to show the kids what real-life heroes look like.

Beaumaris Gaol & Courthouse

A proper step back in time! Learn all about the town’s old jail and see the original courthouse. Fascinating (and a little eerie – the kids will love it).

Where To Eat With The Family

There are some lovely places to eat in Beaumaris. Naturally, I’ve not managed to explore everywhere, but here are my favourites:

Red Boat Ice Cream Parlour

This place is always busy, which tells you everything you need to know. The only problem when visiting with the little ones? There are so many flavours they take forever to decide what they’re having!

Neptune Fish & Chips

If you’re after your classic seaside chippy, then this one’s my favourite. Great for grabbing dinner to eat by the sea (or in the car if you don’t want to sit there fending off seagulls).

The Bulkeley Hotel

A bit more of a sit-down affair, but very welcoming for families. I like the living room feel to the Bulkeley, or sitting outside with a cider in the summer.

August Café

If you’re ferrying around any little Taylor Swift fans, then you have to go to August Cafe. My daughter is obsessed, and so am I, after they won me over with that chocolate milkshake.

Amenities

Toilets

Yes. There are two sets of public toilets, one near the beach and one near August Cafe, just off the high street. Wheelchair friendly toilets are available too.s

Parking

There are plenty of parking spots. I’d recommend trying Beaumaris Canolfan for cheaper parking, though spaces fill up quickly. Alternatively, you have the green, or Castle Gardens car park. If you have a motorhome, you’ll have to park in the Castle Gardens car park as Beaumaris Green has height restrictions in place.

So, What Makes Beaumaris So Special?

They say it’s the prettiest town on Anglesey, and honestly? They’re not wrong. With its pastel-hued houses that look like something straight out of a storybook, elegant Georgian buildings and sweeping views across the water to Snowdonia, it’s the kind of place that instantly puts you at ease.

But beyond the good looks, it’s the feel of the place. Relaxed, welcoming, and full of heart. Whether it’s your first visit or your fiftieth, Beaumaris always gives you something to remember and a reason to come back.
