When the sun puts its hat on for a prolonged period, I know I’m not the only one giving it the “it’s too hot” speech. You lot are just as guilty as me, admit it!
In all seriousness, like anyone, when the sun shines, it gives me that feel-good factor. But after a bit, if I’m being totally honest, I’m ready for some overcast vibes, and so are my kids.
Before writing this, I’d been wracking my brains about where I can take them. I wanted somewhere they can enjoy the great outdoors Anglesey has to offer, but without being in direct sunlight for too long. If you’re a dog owner, these ideas will hopefully give you some food for thought too.
With that in mind, I came up with these 4 corking beaches, which have a little bit of shade for when we need it.
Newborough Beach

Sorry, but if you’re a regular reader, you’ll be sick of me harping on about Newborough by now…But please forgive me, it’s just super relevant here. I reckon there are more pine trees than the population of Anglesey backing Newborough Beach, so I had to include it. It’s probably my top choice too.
Moel-Y-Don Beach

You know, I never think to go to Moel-Y-Don, I just sort of end up there on the odd road trip, and I’m never disappointed. The views over Felinhelli are lovely, and it’s always so quiet, a proper hidden gem. Shade-wise, the beach is backed by hedges and overgrowth, which is a real delight when you want to escape the sun for a little while.
White Beach

White Beach, also known by its Welsh name, Treath Gwyn, is a real beauty spot, located on the North East coast of Anglesey. It’s a special little cove that’s undisturbed, which means the nature neighbourhood is booming.
If you’re lucky, you might make a seal friend while you’re there, too.
Due to White Beach being situated down a rugged cliff edge (it’s steep, but walkable if you’re able-bodied), the cove itself offers natural shade for when you need it most.
Tal-Y-Foel

Again, another place I just seem to end up is Tal-y-Foel. Probably after we’ve been to Foel Farm or Anglesey Sea Zoo, now I think about it. Nonetheless, parts of this beach are backed by trees and shrubs, making it a nice place for a wander, even when the sun is beaming overhead.
Where Are You’re Top Shady Spots?
I bet there are loads more shady beaches I’ve not thought of. If you can think of any, help a sister out and let me know. Otherwise, enjoy the sun, stay safe, and love Anglesey.
